back to school with the richardson girls https://www.alimaephotography.com/blog/2014/8/back-to-school-with-the-richardson I have been wanting to do a session like this with my girls for a long time and it just so happens that my good friend Laura had a little desk she wanted to give Myla and a big desk I could borrow.  With some TLC on the little desk and tracking down some other props I was able to pull it off and I could not be more excited to share them with you!  I might be slightly biased, but I thought they turned out pretty darn cute!

my photography "birth" https://www.alimaephotography.com/blog/2014/8/my-photography-birth My photography “Birth” started when our youngest daughter, Myla Mae, was born.  You know how sometimes big life changes spark something in you that you never knew you had??  Yep, that is exactly what happened here.  My husband bought me a “big girl” Nikon D3100 camera which I was completely furious pleasantly surprised but concerned with him over because of the expense.  I mean, we were about to have a baby and he just spent over $800 on a camera,  I was a bawling hormonal mess completely calm and collected in voicing my concerns, but I did get over it eventually and I am so thankful for him just buying it behind my back and surprising me. ;)  So, here I am with a big girl camera and no clue how to use it out of “auto” mode.

I started reading an amazing blog called Minding My Nest that the very talented Kelly Ishmael (who just so happens to have worked with me at the time) writes and was in awe of her blog writing because she’s just so funny and inspirational, but more so of her photos…they are absolutely breathtaking and I needed to know the secret.  Check out her work at Kelly Ishmael Photography and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about…so amazing!  So what did I do, I bugged her to death until she said yes called her up and asked for a little photography lesson.  She started talking about shutter speed, aperture, ISO and bokeh and I must say I was completely confused through most of those conversations, but she sent me lots of sites to check out.  We met at Woodward Park here in Tulsa with both our daughters and tortured them for a little while as our models.  Here are my very first “real” pictures.  Real meaning ‘out of auto mode” being coached by Kelly.

And here is the gorgeous Kelsey who is such an absolute sweetheart and was so patient posing while I tried to figure out what the heck I was doing. Mind you, I had not started editing photos at all so hopefully she won't strangle me for posting this unedited picture, but come on, her skin is GORGEOUS!  Oh to have the skin of my 20's again would be a wonderful thing!

And so, this photography journey was born.  From that point forward I was caught hook line and sinker and I cannot be more grateful to my girls for inspiration, my husband for unfailing encouragement even when I’m completely overwhelmed and my friend, Kelly, for her mentoring and constant encouragement.  I could not have started this wonderful journey that has given me such a beautiful artistic outlet without all of them.

where did alimae come from you ask https://www.alimaephotography.com/blog/2014/8/where-did-alimae-come-from-you-ask AliMae is a combination of both my girls names who are my inspiration on this photography journey.  Alista Marie, my oldest who is 11 and goes by Ali and then Myla Mae, my larger than life personality 2 year old. I pondered for a long time whether to call my photography business "Tonya Richardson Photography" because it's what the so-called experts everyone else in the business was advising in order to "brand" yourself for marketing purposes but, it just didn't click for me and let's be honest, Richardson is a ridiculously very long name.  Several friends and family mentioned AliMae and I just never could get it out of my head...and that was my sign to just go with it.  They are, after all, my favorite subjects.  :)

So here are a few of my very favorite pictures of my girls.     Easter Girls-4Easter Girls-4 Re-edit-1Re-edit-1 Richardson-20Richardson-20 Gallery-25Gallery-25

The "B" Word - What If https://www.alimaephotography.com/blog/2014/2/the-b-word---what-if BLOGGING

Yep, I said it…the "B" word.  I have dreaded this word for months…knowing i want to start it, but no idea where to start and plagued by "what ifs".

  • What if it's boring?
  • What if I suck?
  • What if it's too personal?
  • What if I offend someone?
  • What if I fail?
  • What if I suck?

Seriously, how insecure ridiculous do I sound?

What kind of life can we live if we worry about the What If's?  Worry, Doubt and Fear can cause a person to go insane and they plague me some of us every day.  Just imagine how much we could accomplish is we stop wasting so much time and energy on this nonsense.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matt 6:34

A verse to live by...

My blog may suck, might be boring, might get too personal and all out fail, but it might also be the exact opposite...

  • What if I'm good?
  • What if people like it?
  • What if I help someone?
  • What if I love it?
  • What if it's amazing?!

Join me in casting your worries aside and living life to the fullest.

Here's to my first blog post!!
